The next screen you go to depends on whether any of the templates in the mail pack have "template variables" set. If they do, your next screen will be the "Enter variable values" screen, and you can set the values you want to use in this mailing. If none of your templates contain "template variables", you will go straight to the next section, "Select mailing list".
Once you have entered the values required, click:
![]()
The Edit variable option on the template allows you to set tags you want to use at a template level. These tags are different to those you use for data fields, and are set once and then applied to an entire mailing.
Example: you might have a standard template, but every time you use it you need to set a certain element, such as a location or someone’s name.
Within the template, you could therefore have tags for <<location>> and <<name>>. Each time you use this template, you will then be prompted to enter the required values to be applied for that mailing only. This saves you having to change the template each time you use it.
A full explanation of how to create and edit template variables can be found in the Docmail Userguide (PDF)
